Habitats

Moorcroft WoodThe Moorcroft Centre is adjacent to Moorcroft Wood Local Nature Reserve, owned by Walsall Council. Planted just over 100 years ago on a former colliery site the reserve is an amazing illustration of how diverse and exciting urban wildlife can be.

The mature woodland offers wonderful opportunities for youngsters to experience and study nature, and the large lake allows them to discover a whole new world of waterbirds and minibeasts.

Industrial Heritage

Blast Furnace Slag at Moorcroft WoodMoorcroft Wood itself was a former colliery and the site of early blast furnace experiments, and a canal runs alongside the wood, and offers opportunities to explore the impact of the Industrial Revolution on the environment, as well as wider issues about the Black Country's role in our heritage.
