Practical Projects
The People & Wildlife team is dedicated to working with local community on projects that encourage biodiversity, education and green space within the Birmingham and Black Country region. The team regularly works with schools, youth groups, community groups and corporate groups in a number of different roles. We can provide everything from, simple project advice, help with funding and training to more practical skills and project management.
The majority of the work we do with groups is green woodworking. This is in principle is converting green wood (tree trunks / logs) into usable products such as benches, tables and shelters using, in many cases, traditional techniques. We aim to source all of our wood from within a 50 mile radius which promotes the sustainable management of local woodlands. Our goal through working in this way is to create an economic value for our own woodlands increasing their importance as a resource giving another reason to look after them as promoting the planting of new ones.

Schools
The Birmingham and Black Country Wildlife trust see our regions schools as an important tool in our campaign to raise environmental awareness with the aim of a more sustainable future. The People & Wildlife team provide assistance to schools in both planning and completing nature based grounds projects i.e. wild areas or outdoor classrooms. Where possible the projects are planned as a series of workshops with the children having maximum involvement. Projects are designed to include key educational principles such as sustainability and biodiversity.
Corporate Groups
Businesses are increasingly looking to fulfil their obligation towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in their local area. The Wildlife Trust People & Wildlife team are able to match businesses with projects and organise all aspects of running a volunteer day. Our expertise creates the vital link between business and local community, by integrating business with existing projects we can ensure the sustainability and longevity of their work. Corporate volunteer days can be one off sessions or regular involvement in ongoing projects.
Communities
Local community groups are an invaluable asset in conservation and as such the Wildlife trust is always looking to forge relationships with them. We do a considerable amount of work with local groups that are associated with wildlife areas, but we also work in more urbanised areas with the aim of improving the whole conurbation for wildlife and people. We work with groups of all ages and abilities and can offer help at all stages of projects.
