The Wildlife Trusts' Save our Seas team
There has never been a more important time to stand up for the UK’s marine life. The Government is currently writing wide-ranging new laws to control how our seas are managed and protected. We need YOU to help ensure that these laws provide a healthy future for our seas and sea life.
Join the SoS team here and help us make waves!
As a member of the SoS team you’ll receive approximately six email bulletins per year, featuring:
Updates on the UK Marine Bill and other hot topics in marine conservation.
Tips and resources to help you get actively involved in our marine campaigns and projects.
Invitations to take part in major campaign events.
We’ll ask you to take action for marine wildlife in a variety of ways. This might include sending a letter or email to the Government, contacting your MP, collecting petition signatures, taking part in public events and helping to get marine conservation in the news. In 2008, SoS team celebrated the following successes:

UK Marine Bill in Parliament (December) - After a concerted campaign effort, the Government finally included the UK Marine and Coastal Access Bill in last year's Queen's Speech. The Bill immediately began its journey through Parliament, starting in the House of Lords.
Lamlash Bay saved (September) - SOS members helped convince the Scottish Government to create Scotland's first Community Marine Reserve at Lamlash Bay on the Isle of Arran.
National Marine Week (August) - The Wildlife Trusts led a nationwide celebration of our seas, with a record-breaking 280 events at coastal and inland locations.
Lyme Bay Reefs saved (June) - After an 18 year campaign by The Wildlife Trusts, Defra banned scallop dredging and trawling from 60 square miles of vulnerable reef habitat.
In 2009, we'll be keeping up the pressure to make sure that the UK Marine and Coastal Bill is not weakened on its passage through Parliament. We will also continue campaigning for a Scottish Marine Bill (expected later this year) and a Marine Bill for Northern Ireland. We will keep you up to date throughout the year and prompt you to take action at the critical times.
